The Brookhaven Bucks home field, Hermance Stadium at Oglethorpe University, was recognized as one of the top collegiate summer league ballparks of 2016 by Stadium Journey.
The rankings are based on Stadium Journey’s FANFARE scale rating, which includes several factors including the food and beverages served in the stadium, the overall game day atmosphere, the neighborhood where the ballpark resides, the fans, access within and to/from the ballpark, the overall return on investment, and one category for any unique extras.
From Stadium Journey…
“There is a fascinating story behind Hermance Stadium. Construction began on the Gothic style stadium for Oglethorpe University’s burgeoning football program in 1925; however, construction halted in 1929 after the stock market crash and the facility remained only one-quarter complete to this day. The ornate exterior of the stadium is in stark contrast to the inside stands; the bleachers are poured concrete and the dugouts are constructed of stone. This facility is built to last, and is a beautiful place to watch a game. Gothic towers and stone academic buildings form a stunning backdrop beyond the outfield walls, creating an interesting setting for baseball in the summer.”
